Our first stop is for coffee in the Rose Gardens in Regents Park where there are public toilets and a restaurant. Crossing the bridge over the lake, you may get to see herons as well as ducks and geese of all varieties.
We leave the Park to walk west along Regents Canal with its interesting mix of traditional canal boats and then through the intriguingly named “Little Venice”; then south along Canal Way, passing Paddington Station to our right. The canal boats here are very different, being given over to restaurants, bars, hire boats. Here you will experience the lively and infectious atmosphere so typical of cosmopolitan London.
Soon, we enter Hyde Park and stop for lunch at the Italian Gardens. If needed, public toilets are available here. On past the Serpentine to see parakeets in the trees and bird life not seen locally. No time to take a dip in the Serpentine Lido but we will watch the kids splash about for a while!
We leave Hyde Park to go across Hyde Park Corner and into the less cultivated roughness of Green Park, and so on to within 50 yards of Buckingham Palace to enter St. James’ Park and walk around half of the lake to return to the Palace and then to Victoria Station.
